Brief:
Over the years Folkecenter has transferred renewable energy know-how around the globe; it has organized solar lighting projects in Africa since 1998. By 2015 Folkecenter in cooperation with local NGO’s and suppliers has installed solar systems in over 300 rural schools in Mali, Uganda and Burkina Faso in the villages less than 5 % of the people have access to electricity. In the book, Light over Africa, you will find the background of the solar lighting projects, the impact for the local people, the keys to success and the next challenge: a plan for solar lighting in 10 000 village schools in the above-mentioned 3 African countries. Here two thirds of the populations are illiterates; in the countryside even more. With the implementing of the new plan 2 million village inhabitants (10 000 schools, each 200 students) will have the opportunity to attend evening school to learn to read and write. The investment will be EUR 10 million (EUR 1 000 for each school).
